The 4th Golden Brain Research Project Competition

1. Objective
The "Independent Study Program (/ Interdisciplinary Team-oriented Learning Course)" is a team-based learning (TBL) program that emphasizes teamwork, self-learning, and diverse teaching methodology. The program takes into account humanities and life sciences, in order to cultivate medical professionals equipped with the 4Cs abilities (Critical Thinking, Communication, Collaboration, Creativity). The faculty of the College of Medicine will supervise participating students through diverse research topics, such as life sciences, social sciences, ethical issues, medical technology, or humanities and arts. The competition topics can be planned in advance by the faculty, or students can propose research topics of interest in small groups. The competition will help students cultivate skills for active learning. Students who have outstanding research potential will be recommended to apply for MD/PhD (physician-scientist program) at China Medical University.

3. Qualifications
1) Students who have taken or are taking independent research courses or special research courses at the College of Medicine.
2) Master's degree students with personal research outcomes (presentation content is limited to personal research).
Students can apply individually or in groups (within 5 students). Each student can only participate in one group, and each group must have a group leader. Group members and topics cannot be changed after the application deadline. If more than 10 teams apply, a preliminary announcement will be made.

5. Submission
1) All team leaders must submit a) research proposal, and b) presentation slides (electronic file) to shuen@cmu.edu.tw before the deadline (October 24, 2021). The files submitted will be used for evaluation on the day of the competition.
2) Date of competition: October 29, 110 (Friday) 10:00 a.m.
3) Venue: 6F, Professional Classroom of School of Medicine, Medical Building, Yingcai Campus
4) Competition explanation: The total score is 100%. Each team needs to deliver an oral presentation, which is limited to 7 minutes per team, including 5 minutes for oral presentation and 2 minutes for Q&A. (Note: Students are encouraged to make the oral presentation in English)
6. Awards
1) All participating teams and instructors will be given a certificate of participation.
2) The evaluation and awards shall be decided by the judges. The judges reserve the right of making the final decision and to award no prize.
3) Awards: 1st place (NT$5,000), 2nd place (NT$4,500), 3rd place (NT4,000), 4th place (NT$4,000). All awardees will be given a certificate.
