The China Medical University College of Medicine (CMUCM) was established in 1958. It encompasses School of Medicine, Department of Medical Laboratory Science and Biotechnology, Department of Biomedical Imaging and Radiological Science, and Graduate Institute of Biomedical Science. In addition, there are 4 Ph.D. and 1 Master Programs affiliated to the College. As a top-tier academic center, our goal is to cultivate medical professionals with humanities and empathy for patients and to improve health through innovative researches. In the past 20 years, we experienced medical education reform four times. The pivotal alteration was to scatter the traditional teaching programs into integrated curricula based on the human organ systems and early exposure to relevant clinical elements. Also, we added problem-based learning (PBL) into each curriculum to enhance the capabilities of students to apply the academic knowledge to resolve or understand the problems they encountered during the process of exploration. A team-based discussion was finally adopted to wrap up each curriculum and cultivate the motivation of active learning. To escalate and consolidate the hands-on clinical practice, we scheduled the medical students to the affiliated China Medical University Hospital (a top-ranked medical center with 2000 beds) since their 5th year, and the clinical curriculum was delivered in each rotating clinical department by the faculties or residents. The students were allocated in clinical care squads and were supervised by the team attending physician and house officer. In each clinical department, the students should expose themselves to the relevant blended-curriculum, which are the integration of well-designed pre-recorded mini-lectures addressed by the faculties with coherent clinical experiences. Students will be evaluated from different settings to ensure their learning situations are appropriate, and the learning thresholds are being surpassed.
To broaden the global vision of our students, we have offered abundant opportunities for student-exchange programs with leading international universities and colleges. The students may stay in the collaborated universities for one year or longer and then return to CMUCM to finish their degrees. Also, they may have a short-term visit to the aforementioned academic units to assimilate knowledge. More importantly, we have offered scholarships for selected graduate students to carry out research in renowned laboratories during the process of their academic curriculum.  An exclusive "Elite Steed Program" for cultivating M.D./Ph.D. was founded in 2015, and they may obtain dual degrees once the courses are accomplished.
The alumni are the necessary support for the development of the College of Medicine. The connections among alumni, students, and faculties are crucial for the development of the College. Our doors are always opened to our alumni, and we welcome your visit, valuable suggestions, and donations.
In this family, we treasure every member and pay especial attention to those who are in vulnerable situations or emotional frustrations. As addressed in the Proverbs, "A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones". We sincerely care for the mood and spiritual status of our students and members. We wish everybody to feel supported and grow while attending the College of Medicine as we help each other and work together for a glorious future.
