Academics

School of Medicine

The School of Medicine is composed of 27 departments, of which 8 belong to the basic medical disciplines and 19 belong to the clinical medical disciplines:

  1. The basic medical disciplines include the following departments: anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, microbiology & immunology, pharmacology, parasitology, pathology and social medicine;

  2. The clinical medical disciplines include the following departments: internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, otolaryngology, ophthalmonology, dermatology, radiology, neurology, phychiatry, family medicine, rehabilitation, anesthesiology, orthopedic, urology, oncology, emergency medicine, nuclear medicine and experimental diagnosis.

Department of Medical Laboratory Science and Biotechnology

The Department of Medical Technology was established in September 1981, in order to educate Medical Technologists, Laboratory managers, Laboratory Scientists and researchers in Biomedicine. The Department of Medical Laboratory Science and Biotechnology at China Medical University covers both fields of laboratory medicine and biomedical biotechnology, encouraging close ties with health care and biotechnology industry and preparing our students for either a professional or academic career.

Department of Biomedical Imaging and Radiological Science

The Department of Radiology, the Department of Nuclear Medicine and the Department of Radiation Oncology at this hospital are fully equipped with a great number of advanced imaging and treatment instruments to provide medical care staff with the latest in medical examination technology and diagnostic support. Moreover, professional radiologists and medical technologists play an equally important role. Students admitted to the Department of Radiological Technology not only benefit from the availability of modern equipment, but also from the fervour and enthusiasm of the faculty.

Graduate Institute of Biomedical Science

The institute of clinical medical science is established based on the importance of cultivating outstanding clinical medical researchers. The institute is oriented toward human disease research. Its mission is to cultivate those clinical investigators or physician scientists with characteristics of biomedical profession and independent study ability.

Ph.D Program for Aging

The Ph.D Program for Aging was established in 2010. Through the cooperation between China Medical University (CMU) and National Health Research Institutes (NHRI), it integrates the field of advanced biosciences, especially Omics. The main goal of the program is to educate students to become experts or physician scientists in aging and related diseases. Prospectively, students graduated from this program will not only have concepts in morality and humanity, but also possess international vision and the ability to act independently using cutting-edge technology to solve the problems in the field of aging.

Ph.D Program for Translational Medicine

Translational medicine is a course that combines interdisciplinary knowledge to explore the application of research findings to clinical treatments.

China Medical University has been cultivating outstanding clinical and translational medical talents for a long time. To further improve the medical research standards of Taiwan, China Medical University has signed an academic cooperation agreement with Academia Sinica, combining experts, scholars, and physician-scientists in basic research from both sides to conduct high-level scientific research and train elites with resources from our advanced research centers and Academia Sinica.

This program encourages medical talents who have an aspiring focus on cancer, traditional Chinese medicine, brain diseases, stem cell and regenerative medicine, immunity, neuropsychiatry, cardiovascular or other key issues in biomedical fields, hoping to address major challenges in clinical practice.

Ph. D Program for Cancer Biology and Drug Discovery

The objective of this program is to identify and develop active components within traditional Chinese prescriptions and medicinal herbs with potent anticancer properties. Selected prescriptions and herbs will be tested through CMU's technologic platforms which include: experimental animal models, pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamics studies, safety and effective assessments, pre-clinical testing and ultimately human clinical trials. Hence, the distinguishing feature of integrated traditional Chinese and western medicinal development in this program will greatly enhance the medicinal research ability of CMU and enabling Taiwan to be greatly recognized by the international medical society.

International Master's Program of Biomedical Sciences

Our program is a dynamic research community. In addition to faculty from the Medical College in CMU, we also have access to over 10 core facilities staffed by faculty level directors, researchers, as well as technicians, all with specialized expertise. These core facilities provide research support services such as access to instrumentation, data analysis, and personnel training. Backed by our graduate program and extensive resources, our students are at the forefront of scientific discovery and breakthrough and are well-prepared when they graduate for success in education, industry, and research.

The Ph.D Program of Biotechnology and Biomedical Industry

The Ph.D program for biomedicine industry has been established in 2018. Our program is to integrate basic, clinical, and translational medicines into biomedical industries, especially the application of biomedicine products and techniques to the medical industry.

The main goal is to establish a coherent structure and training method so that students can comprehensively study basic research, clinical care, biomedical drug development and related laws, regulations, fundraising and industry marketing.
